I am a freshman at UCLA where I will focus on medicine and public health. I have worked as a surgical assistant over the last several summers. I plan to continue to be involved in many community service and school activities. I have participated in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Barrington for the last 7 years and in 2011-12, I helped co-chair the event. We have won 7 Illinois state awards for exceptional growth, teams, participation, creative fundraising and awareness for research. I earned the Distinguished Youth Award and Volunteer of the Year Award for the Northwest Suburbs in September 2011. I also served on the Youth Board for the Barrington United Way and assisted with many community service activities. I was involved in the High School Choir, the Barrington Madrigals that sang in the White House and in Rome at the Festival of Peace and Brotherhood. I sang in Premium Blend, an a’ cappella group that performed for the Great Lakes servicemen at Thanksgiving, the Alexian Brothers Hospital Gala, and the Relay for Life Fundraisers donating our choral talent for entertainment. I have been a member of the Barrington High School Orchesis and the Dance Team. I did an internship with the Illinois Senate President’s office and the Illinois Victory Fund. I have traveled to Springfield to be "Page for a Day" at the Illinois House of Representatives and enjoyed both of these great experiences. In the summer of 2010, I spent a month in Oxford, England at the Oxford Advanced Study Program and took classes in International Relations and Law. It was here, I continued to have a great appreciation for the global aspects of getting to know students and make relationships from around the world. I look forward to sharing my scholastic, vocal, community service and volunteer talents at UCLA in southern California.
